This month we are very excited for several reasons! Firstly, we are proud to announce that our Walk-About database for WA is now live on the 4Legs website. Secondly, we are bringing you for the first time a training advice article focusing on solving those annoying behavioural problems pet owners can experience. Thirdly, 4Legs is proud to be sponsoring the brand new dog walking website, dogabout.com.au which helps dog owners communicate with each other, meet up at dog walking parks and trails and enjoy being healthy with their pets together! Lastly, we have all the regulars such as Q&A, the latest installment of the Fundamentals of Dog and Cat Nutrition, and a featured Walk-About of the month.

Dogabout.com.au – Fun and games for you and your dog!

4Legs is pleased to be supporting the new dog walk website, dogabout.com.au. On this site you will find Walk Leaders who are leading walks all over Melbourne. Its free and all 4-legged friends are welcome. All you have to do is click on the links and register, so that the leader knows how many people to expect on the day.

On top of benefiting from all that exercise and social interaction, on the day of the walk your pooch will receive a free gift courtesy of 4Legs! The walk will go for approximately 1 hour, and depending on the walk location, there may even be lunch or morning/afternoon tea (which is completely optional).

What a great way to meet other dog-owners, for your dog to socialise with other dogs and most of all, to get fit and healthy together with your pets!

Why Do Dogs Chew?

We are pleased to bring you this month for the first time, an article from our Training Advice section of the 4Legs Wellness page.

This section will aim to solve a few of those annoying little problems that dog owners face. This month, we tackle the destructive issue of chewing and try to help you save your shoes, furniture, kids toys and other valuable household items

“It is a normal behaviour for puppies to investigate their environment by sniffing, tasting and perhaps chewing on objects throughout the home. Dogs that chew may also be scavenging for food (e.g. garbage raiding), playing (e.g. chewing apart a book or couch), teething (dogs 3 to 6 months of age that chew on household objects), or satisfying a natural urge to chew and gnaw (which may serve to help keep teeth and gums healthy).” Read more

Q. Can 4Legs be frozen? I would like to buy in bulk & defrost as needed. Please let me know if this is possible. Thanks, Melanie (email enquiry)

A. Yes, 4Legs is quite suitable for freezing. In fact, we would recommend freezing to retain maximum freshness if you don’t plan to use the product within a few days. Remember, once you have defrosted the food, store in the refrigerator and use within 2-3 days. Handy Hint: If your dog eats smaller portions, you may like divide the pack and freeze the food in serving size portions, so you can defrost one serve at a time.

Did you know?

Most domestic dogs are capable of reaching speeds of up to 30km per hour, when running flat out. The fastest dog, the greyhound, is able to reach speeds of up to 64km per hour!

The domestic cat is the only species of cat that can hold it's tail vertically while walking.
